The Hive is a long form improv team that specializes in emotionally and physically committed scene work, inviting audiences to join them in a journey through the absurd and into the profound. Come join our hive mind.

Areola 51: Improv That’s Out of This World! This all-femme, Albuquerque-based long form improv team builds character-based comedy shows from a single audience suggestion. We expand on that suggestion through real, conversational stories about ourselves, and then perform an interconnected series of scenes from that cloud of inspiration. (If you’re an improv nerd, we do a La Ronde!) Expect personal stories, character-based improv, and bits on bits. At some point, someone may become a croaking squire, an alien deliveryman, or even the spirit of contact dermatitis itself. Individually we are: Mary, Mandy, Robyn, Simone, and Virginia. Join us!

However, judgment, shame, and persecution follow her as she becomes accidentally caught up in the Salem Witch Trials. Can she evade judgment, shame, and persecution a second time?

We first staged this in Brooklyn with performers from Comedy Central, The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Reductress, and more—and it was an absolute blast. Maximum silliness, zero homework, and a chance to showcase as many festival comedians as possible in one wildly fun hour.

Hosted by Joshua, “Bad Indian” tours comedy clubs and festivals across the country, including Netflix Is A Joke Fest, SF Sketchfest, and the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

 

Come experience some of the funniest Indigenous comedians from across Turtle Island for a night filled with laughter, storytelling, and culture!

We are proud to host the official festival headliner of the 2026 Albuquerque Funny Fiesta, Marc Maron. Maron has released five hit stand-up comedy specials throughout his career. His most recent, MARC MARON: PANICKED premiered on HBO in August 2025. He has a peerless reputation in the podcasting world through his landmark podcast WTF with Marc Maron, and hes starred in many of your favorite award-winning TV shows and movies. The 2026 Albuquerque Funny Fiesta will run from March 2-8, and will culminate in this incredible night at the Kiva with the hilarious Marc Maron. Because this year's Funny Fiesta coincides with the centennial of Route 66, the comedy festival is focusing on New Mexican comedic talent, including Maron, who is originally from Albuquerque.
